Established in 2003, the School of Humanities and Social Sciences is a comprehensive college with the major of Law for enrollment in law and 4 majors of Public Service Administration, Public Administration, Advertising, and Chinese Language and Literature for enrollment in public administration. It has four teaching and research sections of law, public management, advertising, and Chinese; it has set up party branches in the sections of Law, Public Management, Chinese and Office. The school currently has more than 800 undergraduate and master students. In 2020, the school enrolled 166 undergraduates and 153 postgraduates.

The school now has 62 faculty members, including 55 full-time teachers, 11 professors and 29 associate professors, including 2 famous teachers of Beijing higher education institutions, 1 Beijing outstanding teacher, 18 teachers with overseas study experience. Among the teachers, the proportion of doctoral degree holders reached 69%. The school has 1 second-level doctoral program in Energy Management, 2 first-level master programs in Law and Public Administration, two professional degree authorization programs for Juris Master (JM) and Master of Public Administration (MPA), and 1 provincial key discipline of Litigation Law.

The school makes full use of the platform advantages and resource advantages of the humanities and social sciences base, actively organizes scientific research teams, builds platforms, and conducts extensive international and domestic academic exchanges. It has 2 provincial and ministerial research bases. In Nov. 2006, the school was approved to establish the only provincial and ministerial liberal arts research base in China with energy development as the research object -- Beijing Energy Development Research Center. In 2020, the school was approved for one of the first batch of national scientific research bases for aging. At the same time, the school also has a school-level research institution "China Energy Precision Poverty Alleviation and Social Development Research Center". In 2019, in order to implement General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important ideas of "innovative technology, serve our country and benefit the people", the school served Beijing’s "Three-year Action Plan for Hui-Tian Governance", establishing the "Hui-Tian Governance Research Institute", and the "Hui-Tian Governance Forum", "Future Hui-Tian Forum", to create a comprehensive research platform integrating talent training, scientific research, and policy consultation. The school was approved by the main leaders of Beijing.

The school focuses on improvement of scientific research ability of the teachers and students. In the past five years, it has undertaken nearly 100 vertical programs such as programs of the National Social Science Foundation of China, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Social Science Planning Fund of the Ministry of Education, and the Beijing Social Science Foundation. The vertical and horizontal funds have reached more than RMB 50 million. It has published more than 80 monographs, nearly 20 textbooks, nearly 500 academic papers, and won more than 10 provincial and ministerial scientific research awards. It has actively submitted research results to relevant departments, and the results have been recognized or adopted by the Supreme People's Court, Ministry of Commerce, National Energy Administration, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Civil Affairs, Beijing Municipal Party Committee and Government, Hebei Provincial Party Committee and Provincial Government and other departments.

The school adheres to the fundamental task of cultivating talents by virtue, strengthening the construction of teachers' morality and ethics, and guiding teachers to "be good teachers of the 'four qualities' and 'four guides' in the new era". The school respects the law of education and learning, strengthens the practical orientation of education, constructs the three-"Great" of "Great" cooperation, "Great" teacher, and "Great" students, constructs the social experiment project, deepens the "education project", implements the "dual-wing project", and makes the "Three-full Talent Education" be finely and practically implemented in details. Based on construction of "First-class universities and disciplines of the world", the school vigorously promotes teaching reform. The school implements the network open education concept of "Internet + Education" and actively creates online courses. It has launched 3 online open courses, including 1 "National Excellent Video Course" and 1 "National Excellent Online Open Course". The school undertakes most of the teaching work of humanistic literacy courses. Adhering to the training direction of "strong foundation, wide knowledges and strong ability", the school strives to improve the quality of talent training, and explores a professional training mode of humanities and social sciences for talents who are familiar with both energy and electricity industry knowledge and professional skills. Graduates are mainly employed in power and energy industry, by government, enterprises and public institutions, etc. The employment prospect is rosy.
